Kissing a Fool

In love, it would be nice to simply listen to your heart and not allow yourself to be swayed by what other people may think. Sadly, that never happens in the real world. When problems come in that you are unable to handle, you put the blame on the one that you thought you cared for, and you end up terribly disappointed.

You are far
When I could have been your star
You listened to people
Who scared you to death and from my heart
Strange that you were strong enough
To even make a start
But you’ll never find
Peace of mind
Til you listen to your heart

When you value other people’s opinions more than what your loved one believes in, then you stop loving that person. They become a fool before your eyes, clumsy at practically everything, and dumb at making life decisions. So instead of seeing the love once shared overcome the dark clouds, you watch it walk away drenched in the rain because your friends say it’s for the best.

People
You can never change the way they feel
Better let them do just what they will
For they will
If you let them
Steal your heart from you
People
Will always make a lover feel a fool
But you knew I loved you
We could have shown them all
We should have seen love through

In the end, you may come to realize that it was a love not worth keeping and you have friends to keep you company. But what about the one whose heart you just broke? Did you really feel something special, or were you just kissing a fool?

You are far
When I could have been your star
You listened to people
Who scared you to death and from my heart
Strange that I was wrong enough
To think you’d love me too
I guess you were kissing a fool
You must have been kissing a fool

It’s hard to be in love and then eventually told you were not good enough because other people said so. George Michael felt the same thing when he sang “Kissing a Fool.” Click here to listen:

“Kissing a Fool,” written and recorded by the late George Michael in 1988 is the seventh and last single released from the singer’s solo debut album Faith which was released a year earlier. It was the first song from the album that failed to capture the top spot in Billboard’s Hot 100. In the UK, the song was hardly successful as well, landing only on the 18th spot in the singles category, although it did hit number one in Billboard’s Hot Adult Contemporary charts. .

Interestingly, “Kissing a Fool” was the original pre-release title of Michael’s first album before it was changed to Faith. The song is regarded by many as among the most honest recordings made by Michael.
