No One Is to Blame

Life has been defined in so many different ways. One of them is that it’s a great contradiction, and in some strange way, it’s true. You’re asked to do something, but you should not complete it; you’re told to give it your best but be careful about being a perfectionist.

You can look at the menu, but you just can’t eat
You can feel the cushions, but you can’t have a seat
You can dip your foot in the pool, but you can’t have a swim
You can feel the punishment, but you can’t commit the sin

It’s like the laborer who helps build a castle, but only the king and his queen can live in it. Or the student who gets the highest score in the state exam, but still ends up jobless. A criminal gets jailed, but it’s the victim who bears the never-ending burden.

You can build a mansion, but you just can’t live in it
You’re the fastest runner but you’re not allowed to win
Some break the rules, and let you count the cost
The insecurity is the thing that won’t get lost

A company can be on top, but it’s owner remains unsatisfied. A problem gets fixed only to produce a bigger one. Your medical tests shows you’re in the pink of health and you get hit by a truck as you cross the street.

You can see the summit but you can’t reach it
It’s the last piece of the puzzle but you just can’t make it fit
Doctor says you’re cured but you still feel the pain
Aspirations in the clouds but your hopes go down the drain
.

What does this all mean? Why is there so much contradiction in life? It’s because as humans, we want everything and everyone to ourselves. When this doesn’t happen, then we create rules, so we can exclude those whom we feel are not worthy of what we are enjoying. No one is to blame actually…..except our pride and our greed.

And you want her, and she wants you
We want everyone
And you want her and she wants you
No one, no one, no one ever is to blame

British music artist Howard Jones performed and recorded “No One Is to Blame” originally in 1985 under his second album Dream Into Action. A year later, he re-recorded the song under the album One to One where Phil Collins played the drums.

The second version of “No One Is to Blame” placed fourth in Billboard’s Hot 100, and was considered as Jones’ biggest US hit song. It also topped Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart and the ARIA chart in Australia, but settled only at 16th spot in the UK,
