This Time I Know It’s Real

Sometimes, we get the feeling that we’re in the wrong relationship. Instinctively, we walk away, and leave everything behind.

Closing the door
How I thought I was sure
What I wanted in my life
Cutting the ties
That bound both of our lives
Just too blind to realize

We try to move forward, focused on turning our long-cherished dreams into reality. Yet, as we do so, we begin to realize that something is missing. We long for that life that we previously had and wondered if we have made a mistake.

I was chasing a fantasy
In hurting the one who’d never hurt me

We retrace our steps and reach back to the past, determined to correct our errors. With all the resources we can get hold of, we try to work things out and start over.

Day after day
I try to think of a way
To let you know
I was wrong
Thinking maybe you’ll say
Things will work out okay
Just come back
Where you belong

In the end, we realize that what we had was never a mistake; it was real but we didn’t want to recognize it, We were blinded by pride and ended up being lonely, and going back home is the only way to end the loneliness .

This time I know its real
God only knows
I’ve been so lonely without you
Give me the chance to heal
Oh, please take me back
Can’t go on living without your love

Singer-songwriter Norman Saleet wrote and recorded “This Time I Know It’s Real” in 1980 as the B side of his song “Here I Am” which was released as a single. The latter was covered a year later by the Air Supply, releasing it both as a single and as the second track of their album The One That You Love.

This Time I Know It’s Real” is found as the eighth song in Norman’s one and only album Here I Am released in 1982. Bobby Vinton did a version of the song, which was featured in his 1980 album Encore.
