A Love Song

Love songs are beautiful, but they can also make you cry. These are often the sad songs that remind you of a love story that went wrong. In a love song, what has been left behind comes back to haunt you, renewing those many tears that you once shed.

Why do people cry
When they hear the word goodbye
In a love song?
Tears are sure to fall
When you know they gave it all
In a love song

What is it about a love song? Did the writer peeked into that lonely part of you, chose the most appropriate words, then put them all together in a beautiful melody so you can hear it?

It can tear you apart
‘Cause a word can break a heart
In a love song.
They say all the things you feel
And they make it sound so real
In a love song.
It seems that everything they say
Is said in such a way
That we believe it’s true

Love songs make us human, reminding us that love is not always for everyone. Yet, in these very same songs, we get to commune with others, who like us, fell and broke down because of love.

Each of us know
There’s no guarantee
We’ll ever find love.
And in the songs that we share
The heartache is there
To remind us

In time, love songs become part of our memories. But every now and then, we get to hear them again, on the radio, in the elevator, in the stillness of our hearts. When we do, we remember a lonely past that helped us become who we are.

There’s a part of you and me
In every memory
That tells us who we are

Country singer Lee Greenwood originally performed and recorded A Love Song in early 1982. It was the first track from his album Inside Out which was certified as Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In October of the same year, Kenny Rogers did a cover of A Love Song and included this in his album Love Will Turn You Around. When it was released as a single, the song captured the third spot in Billboard’s Hot Country Singles.
