Never Gonna Fall in Love Again

If there’s beauty in love, there’s also darkness and disappointment. Like a flower, love needs to be nurtured if you want it to grow. If you forget to care for it, you’ll find it slipping away, turning golden mornings into cold and dark nights.

At first we thought that love was here to stay
The summer made it seem so right
But like the sun we watched it fade away
From morning into lonely night

When love is gone, there’s really nothing more you can do. As the door slowly closes before you, all the kisses and hugs also bid goodbye, leaving you all alone, something you try to become used to.

No use pretending things can still be right
There’s really nothing more to say
I’ll get along without your kiss tonight
Just close the door and walk away

Yet, the pain is not one that will go away. It will linger to remind us of what we lost, and keep us from taking the same route again. Because when we do, it can only end again in misery.

Never gonna fall in love again
I don’t wanna start with someone new
‘Cause I couldn’t bear to see it end
Just like me and you
No, I never wanna feel the pain
Of remembering how it used to be
Never gonna fall in love again
Just like you and me

Pop rock singer Eric Carmen recorded “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again” in 1976 as the second track of his first self-titled solo album. The song was ranked at 11th place in Billboard’s Hot 100, but was at number one in the Easy Listening category.

Based on Symphony No. 2, composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff, “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again” did not chart in Australia as the song was not released in the Land Down Under. The song was eventually covered by Mark Holden, an Australian actor and singer-songwriter.
