Falling in love can be wonderful, even magical, but when one is made a fool, a broken heart may wish for things to change. To let those who caused the pain feel the heavy burden they have brought upon those who only wanted to shower them with love.

As the heart heals, there is realization that a new love will come along. Things can eventually turn around; the victim regains life and moves forward while the one who supposedly won is left with a deep longing for what was thrown away.

The pain that a broken heart carries is beyond reason and can sometimes cause its downfall. Trying to understand it is often futile because it’s only when there’s an exchange of hearts can there be real awareness of what the pain is all about and how deep it has made its way to the innermost parts.

Released in 1988, Exchange of Hearts is the fourth track in singer-songwriter David Slater’s debut album of the same title. The song did not land a spot in the music charts, but the album captured the 33rd place in Billboard’s Top 40 Country Albums.
David was the 1987 Star Search male vocalist winner, and the victory led to a recording contract with Capitol Records. Exchange of Hearts was released under this label, with Randy Scruggs serving as producer.
