I Love You, Goodbye

When you find the one who just made your lonely heart skip a beat faster, your fervent wish is that the two of you will someday be together, and that neither of you will ever say “I Love You, Goodbye.” Unfortunately, not all love stories are made down a two-way street.

Wish I could be the one
The one who could give you love
The kind of a love you really need
Wish I could say to you
That I’ll always stay with you
But baby, that’s not me

Rejection is part of life, but for some reason, when your offer of love has been refused, the pain it brings to the heart is different. It throbs and lingers even if the kindest of words were said.

I hope someday you can
Find some way to understand
I’m only doing this for you
I don’t really wanna go
But deep in my heart, I know
This is the kindest thing to do

There’s a point when you’ll still hope that the words were never said if only to see the pain leave you alone. Yet, in the end you know that it will not go away. The decision has been made, and in your loneliness, all that you can hold on to is a broken and bleeding heart and a sad and bitter goodbye.

Oh, I don’t wanna leave you
Baby, it tears me up inside
But I’ll never be the one you’re needing
I love you goodbye
Baby, it’s never gonna work out
I love you goodbye

If you’ve played this game called love and lost, then you know that moving on is never easy. Let Celine Dion’s “I Love You Goodbye” keep you company while finding a way to deal with the pain. Please click here:

Originally sung by Celine Dion, “I Love You, Goodbye” is from the Canadian singer’s self-titled album released in 1992. Written by Diane Warren, the song was released in the Philippines as a promotional single and considered by some as one of Celine’s lesser-known hits.

Filipino singer Nina eventually did a cover of “I Love You, Goodbye” for her Nina Live! album released in 2005. The cover version placed fifth in the Philippine music charts.
