Last June was known as Pride Month, an occasion held to highlight the positive impact that the LGBT (lesibians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders) community has made in many aspects of human life.
Prior to the establishment of Pride Month, members of the LGBT community live in secret, afraid to expose themselves in public since they feel that they will be discriminated, if not ridiculed.
“True Colors” best expresses what these people are feeling. Actually, the song has become somewhat of a theme song for LGBT community members. This isn’t surprising given its opening line.
It’s hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
The darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
Still, when gay people summon tthe courage, they allow their inner beauty to shine throiugh and help people to look beyond physical appearances.
And I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
In reality, though, we don’t have to be gay to show our true and natural self. We need not fear, especiially if what we are can become an inspiration to others.
So don’t be afraid
To let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
