Hard Habit to Break

There’s a downside to falling in love, and that’s the tendency to take it for granted. We become so sure the feeling is so strong that we become complacent, and begin creating illusions that it will last forever.

I guess I thought you’d be here
Forever
Another illusion
I chose to create
You don’t know what you got
Until it’s gone
And I found out
A little too late

Thus, we set out on the road to ungratefulness. We become drunk in pride, leaving her alone at home countlesss times and still expecting her to be around when we return.

Little do we realize that feelings can change over time. As we continue on our careless ways, we eventually discover one day that she’s gone. That’s when we realize how much she meant to us, but it’s too late for us to say and for her to know.

I was acting as if
You were lucky to have me
Doing you a favor
I hardly knew you were there
But then you were gone
And it all was wrong
I had no idea how much I cared

Would it come as a surprise that she found another love? No, because she has been left alone for the longest time. Even as the feelings for her are still there, the mistake was in choosing to keep them to yourself instead of sharing these with her.

You found someone else you had every reason
You know I can’t blame you for runnin’ to him
Two people together but livin’ alone
I was spreading my love too thin

So how do we move on from a failed relationship? Actually, we don’t, especially when we realize that we are to blame. We may come out as doing good when we’re with friends, but when we’re in bed and all alone, we face this empty feeling that we struggle against every single night.

After all of these years
I’m still trying to shake it
Doing much better
They say that it just takes time
But deep in the night
It’s an endless fight
I can’t get you out of my mind

Yes, we have the option to get used to the idea of living alone until we realize that it’s a mistake to live without her. That’s because when you have been with someone for many years, she becomes a habit that will be hard to break.

Now being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
But I don’t want to
Being without you
Is all a big mistake
Instead of getting easier
It’s the hardest thing to take
I’m addicted to you babe
You’re a hard habit to break
