Love (Always Commands)

February 14 is a special day for it’s the day the world celebrates love. As someone said it most aptly, “all the world loves a lover”.

Yet, what is love really? How does one define the feeling? Is it a gift from the gods that mortals are supposed to share with one another?

Love, one of a kind,
something for you and I
to share between us
Made of heaven sent by Venus

When did love first happen? They say it’s as old as time, and still, it never grows old. From generation to generation, love is always new and exciting, taking on a different face each time to make herself always appealing.

Love, older than sky,
Like every cloud that has a
Silver lining, Love is new and
Ever shining

Love can make us smile, even laugh at times, and when she does, it’s like magic that we suddenly discover is right inside our own hands. The feeling is never-ending but can change from its seemingly pure and innocent aura to its most passionate persona.

Love, laughing and high,
Feeding the magic that I find within me,
Quicker than the eye yet simply
Love warmer than rain,
Quiet as night but it’s stormy
In its passion
Ancient never out of fashion

Yet, despite her beauty, love can also be cruel. She has been known to leave countless hearts broken and crying but will still be in full command of everything. She will hardly listen to a bleeding heart’s pleadings and will always want to have her way despite knowing the kind of pain that she can bring.

Love, always commands,
It never obeys the heart
That’s bleeding badly,
Aching tears of breaking sadly

Yes, the risks are great when we give in to love, but being the most poweful thing in this world, we can’t help but reach for it and to make it even more beautiful. Love can come in many different forms, but true love is one that remains even in the face of overwhelming odds.

Love, reach out for love,
Not to be treated for
A moment’s pleasure,
Real love is the lasting treasure

In the end, all things will fade, but love will stay. Love brought us all here in the first place, and love will continue to inspire us as we continue living.

Love, for certain, sure,
Love is the only thing I know that
Lasts through time and
Even after than forever.

Caught in this magic called love? Let Roberta Flack tell us more through her song “Love (Always Commands)”. Please click here:

“Love (Always Commands)” is a love song by Roberta Flack recorded and released in 1981. Interestingly, the song is part of the soundrack of the movie Bustin” Loose released in the same year.

The film, however, is not a romantic movie but a comedy-drama. It starred comedian Richard Pryor who co-wrote “Bustin’ Loose” with Roger L. Simon and Lorine Elder III.
