Is There Something

Living with the one you love means undeniable bliss. Sadly, happiness is hardly permanent, and you could wake up one day to find that loneliness has come around to stay.

Lately I see clouds of sorrow in your eyes
Some deep sadness you can never quite disguise
Now I’m scared to ask what it’s leading to
But I’m more afraid of not asking you

The idea of losing the one who holds your heart is terrifying. To erase the thought, you pretend that nothing is wrong. Yet, you can tell that a dark secret is being kept from you. Every touch and every kiss is no longer the same.

You’ve got secrets you’ve been keeping for too long
And I’m going crazy acting like there’s nothing wrong
I can taste the truth every time we kiss
And I can’t go on, at least not like this

Letting go is not something that you want to consider because it will only bring untold pain. Still, would it be worth holding on when you can clearly see that the feeling you once shared together is no longer around?

I don’t want to lose you
But what’s the use of holding on
I don’t really have you
If the feeling’s gone

Listen to “Is There Something” in full and to the heart-breaking message of Christopher Cross here:

“Is There Something” is among the tracks included in award-winning singer-songwriter Christopher Cross’ Rendezvous album released in 1993. The song as well as the album did not gain the needed popularity compared to Cross’ previous hits like “Sailing”, “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)”, Never Be The Same”, and many others.

In fact, Cross’ popularity has started to wane in the 90s despite coming up with three albums, including Rendezvous. This was largely due to the rise of MTV and its eventual domination of US mainstream music. The MTV network saw Cross’ adult contemporary songs as somehow unfit for the kind of music it sought to promote at the time.
