Here I Am

When a relationship falls apart, the hardest thing to do is to move on. We may eventually come to believe that we’ve gotten over the pain. Then a place, a memory, or a song will jolt us back to reality. When that happens, we end up singing a song like this one by the Air Supply.

We spend time with friends, have lunch in a fancy restaurant, take a vacation in a faraway place, or just do anything so we can be preoccupied. In the end, though, we still find ourselves alone, and longing for that one love who left us behind.

Does a broken heart ever get healed? Perhaps, in time, when the concept of acceptance becomes bearable, the answer will be yes. But until then, we listen to songs like “Here I Am” to make us smile and keep us from breaking down.

Air Supply is a soft rock duo from Melbourne, Australia that started out as a band in 1975 with about five to six members. Presently, only two remained in the original group, vocalist Russell Hitchcock and singer/guitarist Graham Russell.

The song “Here I Am” is one of their many hits during the band’s successful run in the 80s. It was included in the album The One That You Love. Written by former Air Supply member Norman Saleet, “Here I Am” was re-titled “Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)” to distinguish it from another Air Supply song, “The One That You Love”. That song has a line in the chorus that goes “Here I am, the one that you love…”
