A Song For Mama

This is a bit late but last week, the whole world celebrated Mother’s Day. Tributes in the form of gifts, lunch-outs, and greeting cards were given out.to honor mothers and all the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for their children.

A song, however, is extra special. Boys II Men proved that when they came up with “A Song For Mama” in 1997. The song hit number one in the US R&B Chart and stayed there for two weeks.

Other than being performed by an established group, what makes “A Song for Mama” worth listening to is the message it carries. The song gives honor to the first woman in our lives, the first one who loved us and taught us right from wrong.

You’re always there for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong

“A Song for Mama” goes on to list down the things that mothers do for their chiidren. Particularly uplifting is the part where a mother provides comfort to her frustrated child.

You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were gray
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me

A mother’s love is truly incomparable. It transcends the physical because unlike others, it can also nourish the soul.

Mama, Mama you know I love you
(You know I love you)
Mama, Mama you’re the queen of my heart
Your love is like tears from the stars, yes it is
Mama I just want you to know lovin’ you is like food to my soul
