Ending my Valentine blog series with the song “You Don’t Love Me Anymore” originally performed by the late country singer Eddie Rabbitt.
This has got to be the ultimate break-up song, but just like “Have You Ever Been in Love”, this classic is hardly played on various radio stations. It’s a bit understandable as the song is rather old. “You Don’t Love Me Anymore” was first released way back 1978.
There’s another reason. The song is quite sad, so if you’re in love, this is one of those songs that you’ll never want to listen to. It tells of the lies and the pretensions that we come up with to cope with the pain of a break up.
It’d be a lie to say
I don’t still love you
I won’t be thinking of you, girl
I’ll never try to call you one more time
Or try to find a way to change your mind
The part about getting drunk is most touching, especially for the guys. We often resort to wines and other intoxicating drinks in the hope of drowning our frustrations to kingdom come. The day after, though, we find that the pain still remains, and we are still hurting.
But the wine’s gone to my head
And tomorrow
I’ll remember how you turned to me and said
Ready to feel the pain one last time? Then listen to the song with me
