Life sometimes brings us to difficult situations that often makes us ask why. We then begin to wonder whether things were destined to happen, whether everything was planned right from the start. Is it really that decides if we should rise or fall?
I’ll never know what brought me here,
As if somebody led my hand,
It seems I hardly had to steer,
My course was planned.
And destiny it guides us all,
And by its hand we rise and fall,
But only for a moment,
Time enough to catch our breath again.
Thinking back to all the things we’ve gone through, we ask how we overcame them, and though we can never truly undestand, we realize that it was love that kept us holding on.
Taking in the times gone by,
We wonder how it all began,
We’ll never know and still we
Try to understand,
And even though the seasons change,
The reasons shall remain the same,
It’s love that keeps us holding on
Till we can see the sun again.
At times, we feel so alone amidst a raging storm. Everything seems to spiral out of control, with the night overpowered by darkness. Yet, as we search for the light, we discover the fire within us, a flame that we are expected to keep as a sign and inspiration for others.
And I stand alone, a man of stone,
Against the driving rain–
And the night — its got your number,
And the wind — it cries your name —
And we search for clues, win or lose,
In this we’re all the same —
The hope still burns eternal,
We’re the keeper of the flame
In the end, we are made to understand that we are all part of a bigger plan and that we are all connected. We are all asked to touch other people’s lives in a positive way even as we travel far and wide in this life. It’s a mission entrusted to each one of us…… ever since the world began.
We’re just another piece of the puzzle,
Just another part of the plan,
How one live touches the other
Is so hard to understand —
Still we walk this road together,
We try and go as far as we can,
And we have waited for this moment in time,
Ever since the world began. *
Rock band Survivor performed and recorded ‘Ever Since the World Began’ in 1982. The song is part of the album ‘Eye of the Tiger’, the group’s third album.
‘Ever Since the World Began’ proved to be special for band keyboardist Jim Peterik and guitarist Frankie Sullivan who got together to write the song as a way of dealing with the loss of their loved ones. Sullivan had a family member who died of cancer while Peterik played the song for his father during the latter’s last days.
In 1987, Tommy Shaw, formerly from the band Styx, did a cover of ‘Ever Since the World Began’ which formed part of his third album ‘Ambition.’ His version landed at 75th place in Billboard’s Hot 100.
