One listener referred to this as the ultimate break-up song. When you get to listen to it and begin to understand its message, you can”t help but agree.
It’s easy to say that it’s over and that we have moved on. Still, each day, just before we look out the window, there’s a secret wish that she’ll be outside, waiting for us to welcome her back in.
Standing by my window, listening for your call
Guess I really miss you after all
She’s not really there, however, because the truth is that she has gone away, and will never be coming back. That’s when sorrow becomes overwhelming and we begin to ask why we ever let her go.
Time won’t let me keep these sad thoughts to myself
I’d just like to let you know, I wish I’d never let you go
They say love is a mystery, and we’ll never really know when it will all end. That is why every moment together has to be celebrated and made special in every way possible. Without this, we’ll never know how much she means to us until it becomes too late.
Wish you’d never left me but love’s a mystery
You can break a heart so easily
The days and nights reveal how much I feel for you
Time has come for me to see how much your love has meant to me
In time, we learn to face the truth, but until that time comes, we hold on to the memories of the love that we once had so we can deal with the pain. Along with this is the hope that she might still change her mind. If she ever does, then love can still become forever.
And I’ll always love you
Deep inside this heart of mine
I do love you
And I’ll always need you
And if you ever change your mind
I’ll still, I will love you
Still missing her long after she has said goodbye? The late Michael Johnson feels exactly the same. Listen here:
Contrary to common perceptions, “I’ll Always Love You”, as originally recorded by the late Michael Johnson, did not land a spot in Billboard’s Hot 100 when this was released as a single in 1979. The song, however, was a monster hit in other countries, notably the Philippines, where it was covered by several local artists.
The song is among the tracks included in Johnson’s fifth album entitled Dialogue released in the same year. The album contained Johnson’s cover of “This Night Won’t Last Forever” which placed 19th in the US music charts.
