In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, those infected with the virus are often taken away from their families. Isolated from others, they are treated nonetheless, but in the end, loneliness for them becomes an overwhelming feeling.

Singer Eric Carmen originally sang “All by Myself” in 1975. Lifted as the first single from his self-titled debut album, the song captured second spot in Billoard’s Hot 100 and topped Cash Box’s Top 100 Singles.
“All by Myself” was unlike other songs during its time as it successfully incorporated touches of classical music. The melody is partly based on Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor Opus 18 composed by pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff, but for this, Carmen had to agree to a settlement with the Rachmaninoff estate on the use of the music.
Since its initial release, the song has been covered by various artists, the last of which was the 1996 version of Canadian singer Celine Dion. Carmen’s rendition, meanwhile, has sold over a million US copies, ultimately being accorded gold status in 1976 by the RIAA
“All by Myself” successfully catapulted Carmen to solo stardom shortly after leaving the pop band Raspberries. The song, was followed by seven other singles, all of which landed a place in the US Top 40 Hits.
