Marry Your Daughter

Last Saturday, I and my wife of 15 years decided to tie the knot by participating in the annual mass church wedding at our local parish. Previous to this, we were only married in civil rites.

Many guests naturally arrived to share in the celebration. However, my parents-in-law were not around as both of them live in the province south of the country and are already too old to travel.

Personally, I wanted to tell my father-in-law the following lines:

I’m hoping that I
Can marry your daughter
And make her my wife
I want her to be the only girl that I love for the rest of my life
And give her the best of me ’till the day that I die

Of course, everything should be easy since my wife and I have been together for years and have been blessed with four children. Still, I can’t help but feel a little anxious.

Sir, I’m a bit nervous
‘Bout being here today
Still not real sure what I’m going to say
So bare with me please
If I take up too much of your time

The wedding ring is not the best, but it’s what I can offer. I was really hoping I could present it to my father-in-law before the altar date.

See in this box is a ring for your oldest
She’s my everything and all that I know is
It would be such a relief if I knew that we were on the same side

Still, as I mentioned at the beginning of this blog, my parents-in-law could not make it to the wedding due to old age. Nevertheless, I want them to know that I’ll take care of their daughter and will love her for the rest of my life.

So don’t you ever worry about me ever treating her bad
I’ve got most of my vows done so far (so bring on the better or worse)
And ’til death do us part
There’s no doubt in my mind

The wedding has turned out to be one special and beautiful event. My father-in-law may not have been there to accompany her daughter as she marches down the aisle while I waited for her at the altar.

Yet, everything was simply beyond expectation. I’m sure my father-in-law would readily agree that this is one memorable wedding for her daughter, now officially my wife.

She’ll be the most beautiful bride that I’ve ever seen
I can’t wait to smile
As she walks down the aisle
On the arm of her father
On the day that I marry your daughter

“Marry Your Daughter” was sung and recorded by the quintet BRKN RBTZ (pronounced as ‘broken robotz’). The group is composed of Will Wu, David Abrams, Fabian Egger, Niko McKnight, and Brian McKnight Jr. The last two readily sound familiar due to their last names. They are actually brothers and the sons of veteran R&B singer-songwriter Brian McKnight.

BRKN RBTZ started out as back-up vocals to the many shows where Brian McKnight performed. With “Marry Your Daughter”, which Brian Jr., has written, the group has begun to gain the long-deserved public attention.
