Today, the world celebrates Father’s Day. He’s usually the big giuy who runs the family and implements the rules.
In doing this duty though, a father is often seen as harsh, even cruel. As he sets the standards at home, a child finds himself locked in his father’s world as this song aptly described.
I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
As he grows up, a child discovers a world of his own. Sadly, this world is different and often collides with his father’s, resulting in a gap that extends through several generations.
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts
This year, if your father is still around, try to reach out and renew old but estranged ties. Otherwise, things could come out as just a little too late.
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye
Happy Father’s Day.
