The New Year Song 2

It just occurred to me that there’s one other song fit to sing during the New Year celebration. Entitled “It’s Just Another New Year’s Eve”, the song was composed and performed by singer-songwriter Barry Manilow and first came out in 1977.

Unlike Auld Lang Syne, this classic has a rather slow and lonely tempo which is probably the reason some people refuse to listen to it during New Year. After all, welcoming the new year has always been associated with joy and merry-making.

Yet, “It’s Just Another New Year’s Eve” has several lines that  make it one good song for yeat-end celebrations. The part about having made mistakes but meeting new friends in the process allows us to take a second look at the things we did the past year.

“We’ve made mistakes, but we’ve made good friends too

Remember all the nights we spent with them”

The line about life plans never coming to pass but the entry of a new year allows us the chance to finally make it come true reminds us that opportunities abound to start anew when the new year comes in.

“And all our plans who says they can’t come true,

Tonight’s another chance to start again”

It may be a bit late, but then again, it’s only 13 days into the new year. As Barry said it, “Let’s make it the best”.
